New name, same great team!

You may have noticed some exciting changes here this week. We’ve got a shiny new name, new contact details and lots of new ideas!

We are now Earl & Rymer 👋🏼

So why the name change? Whilst we will always have a soft spot for Molly and Maud’s Place (some of you will know this name came from our resident sheep!) Both the sheep and our business have moved on, and we wanted something that felt more representative of us and our growing and evolving business. After lots of brainstorming, discussions and vetoes (turns out not all ideas are good ones 😅). We settled on Earl and Rymer – an amalgamation of Karen and Chloe’s names.

We are still the same core team, dealing in the same beautiful decorative and interesting antiques and art – but as we head towards the end of the year, Karen is (attempting) to enjoy a well-earned retirement and Charlie has come back on board as our Operations Manager. Moving into 2026 will be growing our Stays and Interiors offerings. More on this to come soon!

A huge thank you to all our wonderful customers and friends, who have been with us for the past 12 years. We look forward to continuing to work with you as Earl & Rymer grows.

The people behind the pieces

The people behind the pieces – meet Chloe, one of our Founders/Directors (left) and Charlie, our Operations Manager (right).

As the title suggests, Chloe has been part of the company from the very start. She is a Yorkshire lass, and after spending some time in America and South Wales for work, she thought there was no better place to start the business than home. Two words to describe Chloe are hands on! She does the majority of our stock buying, and what an eye she has, as well as a lot of our minor restoration, light upholstery and repairs and has recently become our in-house photographer. She loves to be in and amongst the products and always has a hundred new ideas.

Charlie’s job is to bring Chloe’s ideas to life – she organises us, keeps us straight and boy does she love a process! She has been with the business on and off since 2018, and with Karen stepping away to retire this year, has come back on board full time. Originally from the south coast, she has had a varied career working in fashion, property, artisan food and a successful spell running her own business. After living in London and York, she has settled in rural North Yorkshire.

As with all businesses, but especially small businesses, the people are the most important part! Our team are amazing and try their hands at anything and everything; one day they are copywriters, the next furniture restorers, the next couriers…who knows what they will be next!

We are shoppable!

Last week we achieved a milestone 10+ years in the making, we made our website shoppable!

This might seem like a small thing in today’s market, and you may be rolling your eyes thinking ‘why has it taken you this long?’

Well, let us tell you, antiques are unique! There is no set size, shape or value. They are also not restocked or available in multiples. Add on that couriers do NOT like insuring antiques or art – and you can see that the task is not as easy as it might seem.

This has come up as a need for the business over and over again, but we have never quite got it across the line. So, in October of last year, we set ourselves a 6 month timeframe to be up and running, and 4 months later…well, we had smashed it!

This has been a truly collaborative effort, with lots of troubleshooting, testing, retesting and refining – a massive thank you to everyone who has been working hard to make it happen.

For now, all items are available to purchase with ‘collection’ or ‘arrange your own shipping/contact us for a quote’ options, and most items have a UK shipping option. The plan is to grow this over time to offer our oversees customers similar options, but as our products are so wonderfully unique, as is the world we are shipping in, it does make this a little more complex – so bear with us!

As we introduce more exciting new additions into our collection, we hope this will make our customer journey smoother and all the more enjoyable!

Take a look…you might just see something you like 👀

Bath Fair

Going back to our roots next week and exhibiting at Bath Decorative Antiques Fair.

We started off at Antique’s Fairs, exhibiting at several a year all over the country. It was a great way for us to get to know the business and the wonderful people involved in it, but in recent years we have moved the business online.

This year we felt compelled to get back to seeing people in person, meeting faces old and new, being amongst it and reintroducing ourselves as Earl & Rymer.

It’s great to talk to customers and other dealers, to understand buyers wants and needs and see what new trends are developing, as well as putting our beautiful stock on display.

So, we’ll be dusting off our moving gloves and back braces, and loading up the van with some of our gorgeous stock to head down south.

Come see us at Stand 17, Bath Pavilion from 5th to 7th March.

New Product Development

Let’s talk NPD.

We have so many ideas and like most small businesses, we don’t always have the time and resources to dedicate to them, so it’s extra meaningful when a fully formed new product finally makes it out into the world.

2026 is a year of trying new things here at Earl & Rymer, following through on ideas that come up in discussions and would usually be shelved for one reason or another, and trusting ourselves. Creating a brand that reflects us, and excites us.

We have been working on something a bit different. Designed in-house and handmade in partnership with a local blacksmith, based here in Yorkshire, we have been sewing the seeds for a collection of bespoke lamps made from reclaimed metalwork and antique elements.

We got our first four lamps back a few weeks ago and would love to know what you think. Sold in pairs or as a single stand alone piece, we think they are just wonderful and would make a subtle impact in any room.

More are in the workshop as we speak and we are also looking to offer a selection of mix and match lampshades in the future…but let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

Sustainability doesn’t have to mean compromise

Sustainability doesn’t have to mean compromising on quality or luxury, in fact, the opposite!

Wool has long been accepted as an environmentally positive fibre choice with a number of benefits, such as being 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable and recyclable.

We are increasingly aware of our climate impact and are putting this at the heart of our approach, which affects the choice of materials we use to make our bespoke textile cushions.

From the raw material stage on a farm to driving the adoption of cleaner wool processes and technologies, wool offers the opportunity to create high quality, durable, comfortable and beautiful products that have been created with the land and biodiversity in mind.

As a natural fibre, wool does not shed microplastics which can negatively affect ocean health. Scientific studies show that wool is biodegradable in both land and marine environments.

Not to mention that it is thermo-regulating, is naturally fire-retardant, hypoallergenic, antibacterial, easy to care for, and can be repaired and enjoyed for years and years.

So there you have it; an antique textile fabric that has already lived several different lives but may otherwise not been used, a sustainable stuffing that rivals any man-made or feather filling on comfort and quality, hand-sewn in house. Stylish, luxurious, unique and sustainable 🌿
