Description
An exceptionally graphic and decorative tribal Persian long runner, woven by Qashqai weavers in South West Iran around 1970. Rendered in a bold pictorial style, the ivory field is adorned with three distinct equestrian figures mounted on horseback, interspersed with charm-filled tribal bird motifs, cypress trees, and star-shaped medallions. Framing the composition is a rich indigo border with stylized geometric vine patterns and classic guard stripes, creating a striking contrast that brings warmth and art-historical interest to hallways, landings, or long living spaces.
This long rug is a wonderful example of Qashqai figurative weaving from the late 20th century. Unlike standard geometric or repeating floral patterns, pictorial “Hoshang Shah” tribal runners are prized for their narrative charm and playful folk art character.
The field presents three bold figures on horseback in alternating rust red and deep navy tones, detailed with decorative saddles and traditional headwear. Surrounding the central figures is a dense, lively array of small birds, flowering shrubs, and geometric star motifs. The vibrant, high-contrast palette of rust, terracotta, rich navy blue, and ivory makes this piece an instant focal point for both period interiors and modern spaces.
Condition: In good vintage condition with honest, age-appropriate wear. As is typical with authentic handwoven tribal pieces, there is a slight natural variance in length (364cm along one edge and 356cm along the other), reflecting its traditional loom construction and unique handmade character.
