The Afshar are a semi-nomadic Turkic tribe who settled in southern Persia (modern-day Iran), primarily around Kerman, Sirjan, and Yazd. Renowned for their superb weaving traditions, Afshar rugs reflect a fusion of tribal spontaneity and Persian artistry.

Typical Afshar rugs feature geometric medallions, diamond lattice motifs, and rich, naturally dyed colours — often deep indigo, rust, ivory, and soft blues. Most 19th-century examples, are woven on wool foundations, giving them a supple texture and long-lasting durability.

Their medium size made them practical for nomadic life, while their bold designs and colour harmony have made them highly sought after by collectors and designers alike.
